Take Your Liner And Wing It This Winter
We all had major cat eye envy here at Alison Jade after seeing Chanel’s extreme blue-matte cat eye look for their Cruise 2018/19 show last month.
Setting the tone for a marine-themed Cruise collection, Karl Lagerfeld had his supermodel sailors march onto the ship Chanel designed in signature tweed berets, white tights and intense navy cat eyes created by Chanel’s Makeup Director, Lucia Pica.
Pica’s unique take on the classic ‘cat eye’ had our creative juices flowing and we started to think of the best feline flicks of all time…after all, the wing is one of those techniques that has definitely stood the test of time. From starlet Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot to Amy Winehouse and Angelina Jolie – this trend will forever be a mainstay in beauty!

Bridgitte Bardot’s smokey bedroom eyes and winged-out liner combo made her ‘sex kitten’ image so iconic.
Pro tip: For an ultra-matte wing like Bridgitte's – whilst your liner is still wet, press black eyeshadow onto your wing using a thin application brush. Use the leftover shadow on the brush and line tightly under the eyes.
Angelina Jolie’s barely-there feline flick makes us weak in the knees.
Pro tip: For small a flick like Angelina’s, we recommend placing a small dot where you would like your liner to end before applying the entire line. This will save you from having different lengths.
Adele's perfect retro flick, fluffy lashes and voluptuous red lips is the epitome of glamour.
Pro tip: For a more glam wing like Adele’s - using liquid liner, line along the top lash line starting from the inner corners of the eye right to the other side. Pair with a thinner line at the bottom but stop ¾ of the way and soften with shadow.
Sophia Loren’s dramatic cat eye never failed to make a dramatic statement. Her wide-eyed gaze will forever be etched into our memories.
Pro tip: To give the illusion of wider eyes, draw a small triangle in white or cream eye pencil on outer corners of your eyes and on the bottom lash line. Then outline with black liner.
